FAQ

Design and shop drawing services — common questions

What design and shop drawing services do you provide?

We provide design and shop drawing services through dedicated drafters and detailers: millwork and casework shop drawings, rebar shop and placing drawings, and flooring and tile layout drawings. Your drafters work in your CAD or BIM software on your title blocks, track revisions and RFIs through approval, and are backed by our QA and technical managers.

Which software do your drafters use?

Whatever you already use. Our drafters work in AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla, SolidWorks, Inventor, Microvellum, Cabinet Vision, and other CAD and BIM tools — those are just examples — using your layers, blocks, title blocks, and typical details. We build on what you already have instead of asking you to change how your drawings look.

Are your drawings stamped or engineered?

No. Our drafters prepare shop drawings from the contract documents for your review and submittal; they do not provide engineering, design responsibility, or a professional seal. Where a project needs engineered or stamped drawings, that stays with the engineer of record or your licensed professional. You review and approve every set before it is submitted.

Is your drafting AI-enabled?

Yes. Your drafters work with Build Intel and Dexter, our AI co-estimator, which reads specs and details and gives cited answers, and AI-assisted checks flag missing dimensions or tags. AI speeds up the work; your drafter checks every sheet, our QA team reviews the set, and you approve it before submittal.

Can we start with a part-time drafter?

Yes. Many clients start with a part-time or as-needed drafter for busy months and move to full-time as their workload grows. Your drafter stays dedicated to your company rather than shared, and we handle recruiting, training, quality checks, and coverage, so capacity grows or shrinks without you adding headcount.

How fast can we get started?

Most clients finish the free assessment and setup in about an hour, and their drafter typically starts within days. On that call we review your software, standards, and current work, then assign the drafter we'd build your team around. Timelines for each drawing set depend on its size and the documents, so we agree on them one drawing set at a time rather than promising a fixed turnaround.
